Did you know that in 2012 and 2013 Denmark was declared the Happiest Country in the World by the United Nations Sustainable Development Network and that the city of Copenhagen has repeatedly assumed the international title of Most Livable City? The Danes have a high standard of living, a positive outlook on life and the future, a tremendous appreciation for the environment and a flourishing culture that exhibits a profound appreciation for history, world class museums, innovative architecture, efficient public transport and good food.

Copenhagen is a city with a small town feel.  It is easy to navigate and is dotted with parks and gardens including fantastic Tivoli (founded in 1843), where you can ride a roller coaster, listen to a concert, enjoy a delicious hot dog outside or a formal dinner at one of the countless restaurants.  Or, you can just take in the ambiance and slake down some brew while people-watching in the Beer Garden.  Tivoli is an institution in Copenhagen and will be open for fun during our week-long visit to the city.

Among some of the best side excursions from Copenhagen include a visit to Roskilde to see the incredible Viking Ship Museum where no less than five reconstructed Viking longboats can be seen dating to around the 12th century A.D.  Also in Roskilde is the Gothic Domkirke, dating to the 1200s, and housing the tombs of most of the Danish royals since the Lutheran Reformation in 1536 to the present.  Another great option is to visit the Kronborg Slot (Castle), a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1585, and which was the setting for William Shakespeare's Hamlet.  The massive castle guards the entrance to Oresund and looks out towards Denmark's neighbor, Sweden.  And, speaking of Sweden, a wonderful experience is to take the train across the beautiful and extensive Oresund Bridge (7.8 kilometers in length) right into the Swedish city of Malmo.  After crossing the bridge and entering a tunnel, the train leads directly to the pleasant and compact town center where you can enjoy a day soaking in Swedish culture.

A trip to Copenhagen, Denmark, is a great opportunity to interact with locals and to chat with them about their culture, their city and their views of the world.  Find out first-hand what makes them happy and compare their thoughts to your own ideas built around our American way of life.  There is so much to do in and around Copenhagen that you won't be bored. Rather, you will likely agree that Copenhagen is the perfect place for an ArawjoTours One City Wonder adventure.  Join us in September, 2017, as we share in the appreciation of one of Northern Europe's great countries.  Sign up now under our advance courtesy reservation policy.
