Depart the US on an overnight flight.

Nov 21,  2016        Arrive Reykjavik

Arrive to Keflavik International Airport and meet your local English speaking assistant and coach and transfer from airport to your hotel.  En route enjoy a sightseeing tour of Reykjavik, exploring the world’s most northern capital. Weaving our ways through narrow alleys framed with old timber houses, we learn about the life of the Icelandic capital from its very beginning to the present day. We pass Hallgrimskirkja-Church and enjoy a photo stop at Höfði house, where the Reagan/Gorbachev summit meeting took place in 1986. From the City Hall we take a walk through the city center to the street where the first settler built his house and see the Parliament building. Next, drive to the harbor where we find a large fleet of whale watching and fishing boats in all sizes. Then we enjoy then the panoramic view over Reykjavik, the fjord and mountains from the balcony at the Pearl. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Nov 22, 2016        Reykjavik- Golden Circle Tour

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will have a highlight of Icelandic nature experiencing the “Golden Circle”. This route takes in three of the most visited attractions in Iceland: Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall) and the world-famous Geysir. We’ll drive towards Haukadalur, a geothermally active valley where the hot spring Geysir and its little brother Strokkur are located. It’s a quite magnificent spectacle standing close to the Strokkur, watching it bursting up in the air every 5-10 minutes.  We also visit one of Iceland‘s most renowned waterfalls, Gullfoss, created where the Hvita river plunges into 32 meters (105 feet) deep crevice.

Free time for lunch on own.

Over a scenic route we reach Thingvellir National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We stroll around the country’s most sacred site, home of the oldest existing parliament in the world, the Althingi, and major events in our history. Thingvellir is a place of fascinating natural beauty, one of the most geologically spectacular, set on a vast plain flanked by large fissures, right on Iceland’s largest lake, Thingvallavatn. The Great Atlantic rift is clearly visible; a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates and you can literally walk between the American and Eurasian continental plates. Tour ends at hotel where dinner and remainder of evening are on your own

Breakfast at your hotel. Day at leisure to explore the Icelandic culture

**Optional evening trip to Blue Lagoon**

The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most popular attractions, a natural geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field and an oasis that owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant, looming large over the aqua tinted waters. We stop for 1 ½ hour for a refreshing bathe or a swim in the inviting, rejuvenating and pleasantly warm mineral-rich water (36°C-38°C/100-110°F), reputed for its healing properties. An indoor pool and geothermal sauna are also on the site. Bathing in this surreal environment is a unique experience no one should miss. The Blue Lagoon’s warm water and natural active ingredients like mineral salts, silica and blue green algae help you relax and escape the stress and strain of daily life.

**Optional Northern Lights Tour**

The view of Reykjavik by night is also not to be missed. On this tour, a local guide will take you on a northern light excursion in hunt for the Aurora Borealis. The Aurora Borealis or northern lights are caused by the interface of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole.  Upon collision they will create distinctive and bright curtain-like auroral arcs. They eventually fragment or ‘break-up’ into separate, and rapidly changing, often rayed landscapes that can fill the entire sky. On this hunt you will be taken away from the city lights and brought into the countryside where the northern lights are most frequently seen. The guide will also provide tips on how best to capture the elusive lights.

Later on we stop at Reynisfjara Black Beach and Vík which are famous for the Reynisdrangar Cliffs rising up from the sea just off the shore.

Last but not least we’ll visit Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre and learn about the eruption which closed the European airspace in 2010. But how did the farming family living beneath it survive? The family of Thorvaldseyri farm show you their story in an unforgettable 20 minute film
