The tour begins by heading south through the downtown area, passing by the Club Hípico, a beautiful horseracing track located in the oldest residential area of the city. Then you proceed alongside the Parque O’Higgins and also the Cousiño Palace, built between 1870 and 1878 for the wealthy Cousiño family.

From here you head along the famous Alameda, Santiago’s colorful main avenue, towards the heart of the city, on the way you’ll see the Chilean University, the San Francisco Church and the Santa Lucia Hill, site of Santiago’s foundation in 1541. Then you continue towards the Plaza de Armas and the cathedral. You will visit the historical museum, where you will learn more about the Chilean history (Mondays closed). Very close from here is the famous Central Market, which is the main market for fresh fish and seafood, an interesting building, dating back to the end of the 19th century: It is a steel construction, built in London and brought to Chile by ship. Afterwards, you continue the tour crossing the Mapocho River to reach the bohemian Bellavista district on the way to the San Cristóbal Hill. From one of the hill’s view points, you will have the finest views of Santiago and the Andes Mountains.

PM: Half day excursion to Concha y Toro Vineyard:

The Maipo Valley is the world’s only wine region with vineyards within the urban limits of a capital city with more than 5.500.000 inhabitants. The valley is home to the highest numbers of wineries in Chile, many of which have a long tradition in wine industry and 19th-century cellars, such as Cousiño Macul, Concha Y Toro, Undurraga, Santa Rita, and others. The vineyards range from the foothills of the Andes to the central plain, where some of the best wine Cabernet Sauvignon of the country are produced. Its Mediterranean climate is stable, with well-defined seasons and low risk of rainfall during the harvest period, which secures ideal conditions for the development of wine growing and production.

Viña Concha Y Toro:

In 1883, Marqués de Casa Concha in the Spanish Court decided to exploit the winemaking potential of the Maipo Valley just as the industry in Chile became fashionable. Don Melchor Concha y Toro brought in French vine stock from Bordeaux and contracted eminent French enologist, Monsieur de Labouchere to prepare his first vines. Viña Concha y Toro rose from this entrepreneurial action at a time of keen interest in national wine production. Today it is one of the largest exporters of wines in Chile and has obtained countless prizes of quality both in Chile and abroad. The company has always been the leader in adopting new techniques, updating its equipment and facilities for vilifications processing, storage and bottling. During a walk through the beautiful park you will get to know the old Casona (from outside), the vineyards and then discover the “Devil’s legend” in the old & dark bodegas. Two different wines will be tasted.
