Krakow, Poland has long been one of the favorite one city destinations of the ArawjoTours Global Nomads family.  We have visited this remarkable city at many different times of the year, but we are super excited to announce that for the first time ever we will be running a special week-long trip to Krakow over the period of December 31, also know as Sylvester in Poland.  Krakow has one of the largest and most beautiful Old Town Squares in all of Europe, and it is the central gathering place over New Year's Eve with food, music and ultimately fireworks.  The celebrations are city-wide and restaurants offer special dining and entertainment packages to ring in the New Year in the proper style and celebratory mood.  Don't miss this incredible and affordable opportunity to visit (or re-visit) one of Central Europe's most magnificent gems.  Below is some more information on the city of Krakow and at the bottom of the pages is a summary of the tour inclusions for this trip.

Krakow is a city dating to the early Middle Ages, when the original settlement functioned as a fortified castle on the Wawel Heights. It has a complex history that includes serving as the seat of the Polish kings until 1609, being incorporated into the Austrian Hapsburg empire as part of Galicia in 1846, and, during World War II, becoming the capital of the Nazi General Government administered by the notorious Hans Frank, who used the royal palace on Wawel hill as his residence.  Today an intellectual center, Krakow is home to one of the oldest universities in Central Europe, the Jagiellonian University, first established in 1384 by King Kazimierz Wielki.  Krakow has many beautifully preserved buildings, but the atmosphere is distinctly medieval, with narrow alleys, cobblestone streets and cellar restaurants and taverns greeting the excited traveler with the smells of delectable Polish cuisine.  Famous for being the setting of Steven Spielberg's masterpiece Schindler's List, Krakow is a city with a sometimes dark past, but whose contemporary youthfulness and energy coupled with the medieval landscape make it a natural rival to Prague--and, quite rightfully, a European jewel.  Krakow is a very manageable, comfortable, tourist-friendly city that is rapidly gaining the attention it deserves.  A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is among the most charming cities in all of Europe.  Scrumptious pierogies (the best in the world!), the purest vodka, friendly young Polish students eager to test their English, a grand Market Square that will stun you with its beauty--all of these things will greet you in Krakow.  Optional excursions possibilities also abound, including half and full day trips to the Wieliczka Salt Mine (another UNESCO Site), to a Klezmer show and dinner in the Jewish Quarter, and, for those interested in World War II, to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

TOUR FEATURES:  This fabulous holiday getaway includes round trip air transportation on Lufthansa Airlines, one of the best airlines in the business;  all private motor coach transfers between the hotel and airport in Krakow;  six nights in the Mercure Stare Miasto, a four star hotel with FIVE STAR ratings on TripAdvisor (rated the sixth best hotel in Krakow of nearly 300 hotels!);  complete and delicious buffet breakfasts daily; a half day guided walking tour of Krakow and a pre-departure pizza party sponsored by ArawjoTours, LLC.  We will also be offering an optional full day Holocaust Remembrance Tour, which will include a morning visit to the Auschwitz and Birkenau camps followed by a lunch stop and three course meal and an afternoon visit to other sites linked to Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List.  You will also have the added special honor of being able to ring in the New Year with the delightful Poles.  The Old Town Square will be filled with people enjoying food, friendship and fireworks.
