ITINERARY:

DAY 1
BANGKOK - ARRIVAL (Nov. 19)
Arriving at Bangkok Airport, you will be greeted by our English speaking guide, who will accompany you for your magical journey, and transferred to your hotel located in the city center by private air-conditioned coach.  The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.  In the evening you will enjoy a superb international buffet dinner while slowly drifting along the riverside of the Menam Chao Phraya.  Whilst dining on this luxury cruise, you will get a first hand impression of the scenic river life by night. DAY 2
BANGKOK
Breakfast at your hotel.   Visit the majestic Grand Palace as one of the most beautiful samples of an ancient Siamese court.  It used to be the official residence of the Kings of Siam and Thailand. Various pavilions, halls and buildings used for different occasions are set around open lawns, gardens and courtyards. Finally you will also see the beautiful Emerald Buddha Temple. Afternoon at your own leisure.  Accommodation at the Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok (Superior Room) or similar 

DAY 3
BANGKOK
Early Breakfast at your hotel.  Just a short ride to the north of Bangkok, take a boat ride to experience traditional Thai lifestyle at Bang Khu Wiang floating market. Monks arrive by boat in early morning on their daily 'tak baat' (alms round), and a variety of farm fresh products are offered.  In the afternoon return to Bangkok and visit Wat Po. This is one of the most extensive and oldest temples in Bangkok with its colossal reclining Buddha.  It is home to more than one thousand Buddha images and 4 Chedis representing Kings of the Chakri Dynasty.  Afterwards proceed to Wat Traimit. This temple hosts the world’s largest solid gold statue, an invaluable Golden Buddha made of 5 ½ tons. Accommodation at the

DAY 4
BANGKOK—SUKHOTHAI
Breakfast at your hotel.  Pick up and transfer to Bangkok airport. Leave Bangkok behind and continue to Sukhothai.  Upon arrival at Sukhothai airport, have lunch at a local restaurant.  Afterwards visit Sukhothai Historical Park, the famous ruins of this first capital of Thailand (1257-1379). Designated as World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the ancient city of Sukhothai, is considered the cradle of Thai civilization. The remains of the first kingdom of Siam include masterpieces of the earliest Thai architecture, sculptures, and other art objects.

DAY 5
SUKHOTHAI – SRI SATCHANALAI - LAMPANG
Breakfast at the hotel.  Continue to Sri Satchanalai, the northern outpost town of the Kingdom of Sukhothai built by King Ramkamhaeng. According to early stone inscriptions, local legends and historic chronicles, it was exclusively governed by the crown prince of the Sukhothai Kingdom.   Have lunch at a local restaurant and proceed to Lampang for check-in at your hotel.

DAY 6
LAMPANG - PHAYAO – CHIANG RAI
Breakfast at the hotel.  In the morning visit the beautiful Wat Phra That Lampang Luang which houses the only Emerald Buddha in Thailand besides the magnificent one in Bangkok. Continue to Phayao, a unique rural town located at a large lake.  Proceed to Chiang Rai and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Drive further north to Chiang Saen. This is the former capital of the first Thai kingdom, situated directly on the Mekong River at the border between Thailand and Laos.  Visit Wat Phra Dhat Jom Kitti by climbing 383 steps to the top of a hill and Wat Chedi Luang. Take a boat ride upriver on the Mekong to the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Continue to Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town on the border with Myanmar.  Stroll through the market.  Finally return to Chiang Rai and check in at your hotel.

DAY 7
CHIANG RAI
Breakfast at the hotel.  Explore this charming city. Start by learning some facts and history about the local hill tribes at the museum.  Continue to visit local temples with Hindu influence and the typical northern style as well as the City Pillar. In the afternoon take a trip to Doi Tung Development Project of her Royal Highness the Princess Mother, the beloved Mother of His Majesty the King.  Drive up on the mountain about 2,000 meters above sea level and visit the admiring temple of Wat Phra That Doi Tung as well as the Botanic Garden. This area is home to various hill tribe villages; experience the traditional and local lifestyle on your way back to your hotel.  Accommodation at the Legend Chiang Rai or similar

DAY 8
CHIANG RAI – THATORN
Breakfast at the hotel.  Start the day with a visit to the Hall of Opium near the Golden Triangle. It combines a museum about the history of opium and the impact of illegal drugs with an information center about research on opium, opiates and other narcotics. Continue to an authentic village of the local Akha hill tribes for a short visit.  Depart for a boat journey down the Kok River passing tiny hill tribe villages, bamboo huts and lush jungle. Continue to Ban Lorcha, a Phami Akha hilltribe community center which promotes sustainable and self-reliant development to improve the life quality of local villagers. Arrive at Thatorn, a small village just a few kilometers from the Burmese border.  Accommodation at the Maekok River Village Resort or similar 

DAY 9
THATORN – CHIANG MAI
Breakfast at the hotel. 
Depart Thatorn towards Chiang Mai, “The Rose of the North”. En route, visit Chiang Dao Cave at Wat Tham Chiang Dao. The caverns are full of sacred Buddha images and natural formations. The main cave is illuminated by electric lights, while deepest recesses can be explored with oil lanterns.  Lunch at local restaurant.   Continue to visit Mae Ping elephant camp and watch elephants handling huge logs. The elephants’ strength and strategic teamwork will amaze you.  Optional: Take one-hour elephant safari into the surrounding countryside.  Drive to Chiang Mai with a short stop at an orchid farm on the way to see various exotic year-round blooms.

DAY 10
CHIANG MAI
Breakfast at the hotel.  Drive up the serpentine road to the magnificently situated Wat Doi Suthep. Perched on a forested mountain, this most sacred temple in Chiang Mai offers a superb view over the city. Passing the city's largest market Talat Warorod, you will visit other important temples within the city.  Afternoon at own leisure Enjoy a typical Thai Kantoke Dinner with presentation of ancient dances from northern Thailand, followed by a performance of dances and songs of various hill tribes. After dinner visit Chiang Mai’s night market; the opportunity for bargain-hunters.  Accommodation at the Imperial Mae Ping (Superior Room) or similar

DAY 11
CHNG MAI – PHUKET
Breakfast at the hotel.  Transfer from your hotel to Chiang Mai airport.  Having experienced the North of Thailand, continue to Phuket, also called the “Pearl of the South”.  Upon arrival in Phuket Airport, transfer to your

Breakfast at the hotel.  Days at your own leisure.

PHUKET – BANGKOK
Breakfast at the hotel.  Transfer from your hotel to Phuket airport by private air-conditioned car/van without guide assistance.  Depart Phuket for your return back home.
