Local Faces, Global Expertise

Kevin Arawjo, President, CEO and Founder of ArawjoTours, LLC

Established in 1998, ArawjoTours, LLC, was founded by Kevin W. Arawjo, a retired college lecturer who taught history and political philosophy for nineteen years at various educational institutions in the Lehigh Valley, including DeSales University, Lehigh University, Muhlenberg College, Penn State Berks and Penn State Lehigh Valley.

Having lived in several countries as a foreign exchange student, Kevin has been to more than sixty nations worldwide and has operated well over 450 tours since the company's establishment.

Originally focused on European destinations, Kevin's realm of operations now includes national parks tours throughout the United States and Canada and an increased repertoire of tours to Asia, South America and Africa.  Apart from traveling, his interests include a love of people, strong coffee, good conversation, ethnic food, movies, reading, hiking, fishing, and spending quality time with his wife, Catherine, son, Ian, and cat, Sochi.

Tour Leaders / Representatives

As Kevin established his tour operator business he learned the value of accompanying groups to various destinations in order to assure delivery of quality travel services.  Kevin, to this day, continues to travel with groups as his schedule permits, but as the Global Nomads Travel Community has expanded, he has come to rely on a number of official tour leaders and representatives to become the eyes and ears of the organization.  The following ArawjoTours Tour Leaders/Representatives are the local faces with a global perspective who travel with ArawjoTours groups and who keep in contact with Kevin.  For a more detailed account of the responsibilities of ArawjoTours Tour Leaders and Representatives, click here.

Joseph McCarthy, Senior ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

Joe McCarthy has traveled with Kevin Arawjo and Arawjo Tours LLC since 1997, Joe’s first trip being to Greece and Egypt. His travels have taken him to all the continents except Antarctica. Joe is a consulting electrical engineer who graduated from Lehigh University and previously worked at PPL.  He and his wife Margie live in Bethlehem and enjoy their three children, their spouses and eight grandchildren.   They pass their love of travel onto their grandchildren by taking each of them on a trip of their choice when they turn sixteen.

Joe has coupled his travels with his family genealogy research, having visited countries and conducted family research  (his and Margie’s) in Ireland, Germany and Hungary from which their ancestors emigrated.  Visiting countries has increased his appetite for additional information about the history and culture of a country – satisfied by reading or revisiting the country.  His bucket list of places to visit has grown as he traveled.

You can generally spot Joe on a trip, since he usually wears his much loved and much worn Tilley hat!

Jack Schellenberg, Senior ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

Jack Schellenberg is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Kutztown University. He taught Chemistry, Physics and Science Education from 1966 until 2003. During that time he had four international assignments as a visiting professor: England, China, Russia and Kenya. Since his retirement from Kutztown, he has assisted and visited many countries with Arawjo Tours, from 2003 until the present. He is often accompanied by his wife Dianne and they often work as a team leading the tour groups.

Frank Klein, ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

Frank retired in 2001 as a defense-contracting executive.  That is the same year that he started traveling with ArawjoTours. Since 2004 he has lead numerous tours for the company.
Frank’s traveling philosophy is to maximize opportunities for adventure, cultural activities and interaction with the local population while ensuring safety during the tour.

Rob Zarambo, ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

Bob taught math for 35 years. With his wife JoAnn, he's traveled the world with Arawjo Tours for quite a few years. He believes groups are the best way to travel: you always travel with friendly people, get personal service from a family owned business, and always receive prices that can’t be beat. He hopes you experience the "BEST TRIP EVER" when you travel with Arawjo Tours.

David Myers, ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

I, along with my wife, Barbara, have been traveling with Arawjo Tours since 2001 and have been to fourteen fabulous international destinations with Kevin as of 1/1/15.  After retiring from corporate life in 2010 I began assisting Arawjo Tours as a Tour Leader several years ago.

It is always a thrill to visit a new destination and gain exposure and insight to the unique culture, cuisine and geography. Likewise, it is a pleasure to meet and share experiences with new travelers and reconnect with the many friends we have made throughout the years on Arawjo Tours.

Diane McAloon, ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

Diane and her husband, Tom, have been traveling the world and enjoying everyday life together since 2007.  While Tom has traveled extensively, Diane is enjoying many opportunities to catch up to him!

She has been with Penn State Lehigh Valley since 2001, currently serving the adult learner population as Assistant Director of Continuing Education.  To her, lifelong learning fosters resiliency and self-reliance and these two qualities lend themselves perfectly to international travel.  Diane is pleased to share what she’s learned about “seeing the world” with others, helping them to maximize their own travel experience.

Aside from career and travel, Diane shares her time and talent through volunteer work and enjoys spending time with Tom and their blended family of seven adult children as well as her extended family.  In addition to loving the “great outdoors”, her quiet moments are spent reading, organic gardening, staying fit, inciting laughter and keeping up with the antics of their miniature schnauzer, Heinrich.

Bill Dwyer, ArawjoTours Tour Leader / Representative

Pat and I have been traveling with Arawjo Tours since 2002.  We have been fortunate to occasionally travel with family or old friends but also make new friends on our trips.  We have seen much of Europe and always bring back lasting memories.

I retired from the faculty at DeSales University in 2014 where I served as Chair of the Dept. of Business for 18 years.  Prior to that, I was a senior executive and chief financial officer in the professional services and heavy manufacturing industries.

Office Staff

Beth Rivas, Administrative Assistant

Beth came onboard in 2010 as Kevin's administrative assistant. She is very detail-oriented; her behind-the-scenes functions include responding to client calls, invoicing, processing names for air ticketing, preparing tour packets, and other critical responsibilities. Beth has been on several tours and has gained hands-on experience in all aspects of ArawjoTours' operations.

She can often be found shooshing away Sochi, our resident office cat.
